Larry Stevens and the Tools of the Luthier Trade

When talking about hand-made guitars, it is a pretty safe assumption that said guitars take more than just hands to build -- they take tools. And unless you have some kind of crazy Swiss-Army Hands, it might be a wise idea to open up guitar luthier Larry Stevens' toolkit via the wonders of internet video. See more on gearwire.com.

3 Must Have Repair Kits For Your RV

Recreational vehicles are an excellent way to discover America. There seems to be no more pleasurable way of touring America than in the comforts of your own RV. The beauty and the convenience of knowing where you are going to sleep, having a place to cook, and not having to pack and unpack your personal things at every stop makes them a traveler's best friend. Well, that is until something goes wrong.

Then, the trip can be frustrating or even a nightmare. Most of the problems can be easily handled if you prepare for them. By building a simple repair kit, you can usually take care of most problems. Your tool kit should include things for electrical repair, plumbing repair and, of course, road side emergencies.

Electrical Repair Kit

Most electrical problems are simple if you have the tools necessary to fix or temporarily fix them. You can buy a simple self-contained electrical repair kit at just about any auto parts store. These kits generally run between twenty and thirty dollars.

What you need should be in most of them. If you are unsure which to get, talk with the parts manager and he will be more than happy to help you pick out the right one just for your needs.
ΓΌ If you are not versed on electrical repairs, go to a hardware store and get a book on electrical repairs.

Don't forget the main item, a good bright flashlight and extra batteries.

Plumbing Repair Kit

Plumbing problems in a RV generally involve cracked or leaking joints. In order to get the right parts, you need to check your plumbing in the RV to see what kind of pipes and sink connectors are used.

- Carry a couple of short links of the pipes used in your vehicle. Most types of pipes are generally PVC or Pex. One half inch in diameter is generally the norm.

You can ask your local hardware salesperson to help you build a simple repair kit. Most hardware stores have books on plumbing repairs also. There is nothing like having an expert in the form of a book with pictures to help you with a leak. Hardware supply stores are willing to help you with any questions you may have.

- Something you might not think of is to have a couple of extra water hose washers and a simple water hose repair kit. Most parks and recreational sites really frown on leaky water hoses.

- Duct tape and hose clamps are a must.

Roadside Repair Kit

Roadside repairs are generally burnt out light bulbs, blown fuses and tire problems.

- Carrying extra light bulbs to fit your RV and car is essential.
- Make sure you bring along your RV manual and your owners manual of you car to help you find your general problems.
- Fuses for your car can be purchased in advance and put in your electrical kit.
- Always carry a spare tire, jack and lug wrench.

Being prepared will keep your RV trip on the positive side and quite enjoyable. Travel prepared and travel knowing you can handle anything that comes along.

6 Proven Online Cross-Selling and Upselling Techniques With Cart Software

Before sharing these techniques with you, we'd better define "cross-selling" and "upselling" for those of you new to commerce. Cross-selling is the practice of offering a customer an item related to the one s/he's already purchasing. For example, if s/he's buying anything for the computer, offer her printer ink or the latest software. If she's buying a purse, offer her a matching belt. If he's buying a tool kit, offer him a degreaser for the hands. Upselling is simply offering another product not necessarily related to the initial item but likely to be attractive.

It may seem at first thought that cross-selling and upselling are better suited to bricks-and-mortar venues than to ecommerce, but that isn't necessarily so. With the proper shopping cart software, you can cross-sell or upsell right at the online point of purchase. You can also follow up with an email for a quick subsequent sale.

1 - Offering combined shipping for orders of multiple items may persuade your customer to buy that digital camera from you, an office supply store, rather than shopping for it at an online camera store as s/he had planned.

2 - Offering free shipping on orders over a certain threshold may encourage the customer to order in advance, or order a larger quantity, in order to reach the level at which shipping is free. It may also encourage her, as in item # 1, to order from you that which s/he had planned to order elsewhere.

3 - Suggesting a related item may prompt him to think, "Oh, right -I'm going to need one of those soon... might as well buy it now.

4 - Suggesting, in text on your page, "Many customers who purchase ___ also purchase ____" may cross-sell effectively.

5 - Giving the customer another chance to think of something s/he needs or wants can be accomplished with a "Before you check out..." notice when the customer clicks the "Submit order" or "Proceed to checkout" button.

6 - You may also find, if you currently entice customers with "Buy a ___ and get a ___ FREE" that it pays to separate the items and sell them individually. The amount of money you lose in customers who will only shop when the free item is offered may be more than offset by the amount of money you'll get from customers paying for the formerly free item.

All these techniques are simple, proven, and money-generating. Try them.

Advertising Formulas - 10 Little-Known Creative Techniques for Writing Successful Ads

What is your formula for writing effective advertising messages? If you're like most people, you'll say, "AIDA," an acronym for Attention, Interest, Desire, Action. It's a classic, perhaps the most quoted formula in advertising and marketing.

However, just as a skilled craftsman expands his or her creative abilities by collecting and mastering a variety of tools, a savvy marketer can expand his or her creative abilities by collecting and mastering a variety of formulas. Here are some less famous but highly inspirational formulas to add to your collection:

ACCA. Awareness, Comprehension, Conviction, Action. This is similar to AIDA, but "Comprehension" stresses the importance of clarity, which is vital for any persuasive message. And "Conviction" is much stronger than "Desire." It suggests certainty.

Attention-Interest-Description-Persuasion-Proof-Close. This is another AIDA variation by Robert Collier. Intended for sales letters, it outlines what he thought was the correct sales sequence.

AAPPA. The eminent Victor O. Schwab suggested this commonsense, clear formula. Get Attention. Show people an Advantage. Prove it. Persuade people to grasp this advantage. Ask for action.

AIU. This is my own formula for envelopes. It stands for Attention, Interest, Urgency. Something about an envelope must get your attention, whether it's teaser copy, graphics, or just blank paper. This should lead to an interest in the contents and an urgency to open the envelope immediately.

PPPP. This is a formula by Henry Hoke, Sr. It stands for Picture, Promise, Prove, Push. In many ways, it's easier to implement than AIDA because it shows you four basic tasks you must perform to make a sale. Picture: Get attention early and create a desire. Promise: Make a meaningful promise and describe what the item will do. Prove: Demonstrate the value and support your promise with testimonials. Push: Ask for the order.

Star-Chain-Hook. This is Frank Dignan's charming and surprisingly fresh way to approach an advertising message. Hitch your wagon to a Star with an attention-getting opening that is positive and upbeat. Create a Chain of convincing facts, benefits, and reasons to transform attention into interest and interest into desire. Then, Hook them with a powerful call to action, making it easy to respond.

ABC Checklist. William Steinhardt's formula is more detailed than most and very practical: Attain attention, Bang out benefits, Create verbal pictures, Describe success incidents, Endorse with testimonials, Feature special details, Gild with values, Honor claims with guarantees, Inject action in reader, Jell with postscript.

The String of Pearls. This is a particular method of writing copy. The idea is that you assemble details and string them together in a long line, one after another. Each "pearl" is complete in some way, but when you string all the pearls together, their persuasive power becomes overwhelming.

The Cluster of Diamonds. Similar to the String of Pearls, this formula suggests assembling a group of details under an umbrella concept. For example, an ad might have the headline "7 Reasons Why You'll Save Money With XYZ." The copy would then list these seven reasons. Each detail is a "diamond" in a particular setting.

The Fan Dancer. The analogy here is perfect, though a bit racy. The idea is to tantalize with specific details that do not actually convey information. For example, let's say you're selling a book on reducing taxes. Part of your copy might read: "The one secret way to pay zero taxes and get away with it (page 32). How the IRS uses your mailing label against you (page 122). Three clever ways to turn a vacation into a business tax deduction even if you don't own a business (page 158)." As with the forgotten art of fan dancing, you reveal little and leave your audience wanting more.

Belkin F8E062 55-Piece Computer Tool Kit with Black Case (Demagnetized Tools) Review

I purchased this kit for a job I was starting as a field service tech for computers, registers, printers, etc. So far, this kit has been indispensible. I know others have decried the flashlight, but it works fine to me. My one wish would be for magnetized tips, especially on the Philips extension. Whenever I get into cramped quarters my big hands make it very hard to place and control screws, etc. Magnetized tips would go a long way to alleviating that. Otherwise, I'm very pleased and use this kit regularly.

Belkin 55-piece toolkit - The Christian Gamer - USA
Amazing toolkit!! I have been looking for something like this for quite some time. It has just about everything you need to repair a PC and other things as well. Quality product and will be used for quite some time!

Underwhelming - Bemace - Minnesota
This toolkit devotes most of its space to stuff you'll rarely if ever use. Most of the tools are unnecessarily awkward to take out and put back in. The picture is also not an accurate representation of what's included.

Great product for the price. - D. Droganici - Naples, Florida
There are a few things that I had to upgrade in this kit. The flashlight, solder, and screwdriver (needed a magnetized one), I also added zip ties. Other than that the kit is awesome, and has a lot of the tools a computer tech would need.

Your Family Tree - Confirm Details, Evaluate Sources, and Personalize Your Genealogy

When you are ready to add a name, date, place, residence, occupation, or other details to an individual in your family tree, always check first. Check twice, type once! Here are some ideas on where to search to confirm basic details of your ancestors, as well as how to add personal information about your ancestors' lives.

The most satisfying family trees are accurate, include sources of information including original documents, and are personalized. How to find these details? Remember that the very best sources are 'primary' sources, that is, documents or records which were developed or filled out at the time of a specific event. For example, a birth registration record, a burial certificate, a ship passenger list: these are filled out at the time of the event and might be considered to be accurate. On each of these and other documents are other details which are wonderful clues for further searches. Those additional details could be very helpful if you are unable to find a quality source for some data.

You may look at a birth record for the correct birth date. But then, you are likely to find additional important clues and details such as mother's maiden name, birth place or place of residence at birth, occupation of father, the grandparents names and occupation, and more.

Are you trying to confirm a birth date? Potentially, you may find a birth date and place on the following documents:

- marriage registration record

- naturalization paper

- passport application

- education records

- ship records, travel records

- specific censuses (certain years may require birth month and year)

- military service documents

- death registration

- burial documents, gravestones

- widow's pension application

While these would be considered 'secondary' sources since they are filled out at a later time than the birth, if they all match, they certainly would help to confirm the birth date, wouldn't they? If the dates are slightly different, think about why they might be different. Did a doctor fill out the death registration and get the birth date wrong because he did not have it correct in the first place? Was a military draft card filled out showing the man was old enough to enlist, when he was actually 2 years younger? Did the census record round up the ages? or smudge the birth year number so that a 3 looks like an 8? or perhaps one of the older children gave the information to the census taker because the parents were working on the farm, and the children were not certain of the correct details? Evaluate the sources you are have found, and try to think about the possible truth of the details. You may, of course, have the wrong ancestor! Same name, different birth year, same town... could be a first cousin!

Here is a very common problem in genealogy searches: no record of a woman's maiden name. What can you do? You may find a maiden name on a marriage record, her death record, her naturalization record or passport application. You may find her living with an elderly mother or with a brother, particularly if your ancestor was widowed. Perhaps a nephew or niece is living with this family on a census - this might possibly be her relative; but this could also be her husband's relative too, so check on both sides. Also check for family records of the siblings of your female ancestor. Their records may be available, and include the common maiden name! This is an excellent example of why it is very useful to have records and details not only of your direct ancestors but also of your cousin families (known as collateral lines).

How do you personalize your ancestors' lives? If you are lucky enough to find old photographs in a cousin's trunk of "old stuff" - great! Make copies, with details and/or stories, and add them to your tree. Or, there may be photographs of a house or farm where the family lived for a period of time.

Perhaps you can add an historical map of the area where the ancestor family lived for several generations. Also, look for a history of the village or town for any mention of your ancestors. Many of these items are online. Check to see what else was happening in the area at the time they lived there, and include those details as well.

If your ancestors immigrated to this country, find them listed on a ship passenger list, with ship name. Copy the list showing their names (usually, birth year, birth place, etc.), and include a photo of the ship if available. Check online for these items, as they are generally available for free.

Finally, historical newspaper articles and/or obituaries, diaries, journals or memoirs, letters, and more: all can help make your ancestors come alive to you and your family. Start talking with your relatives about these kinds of items, and you may be very excited about the wonderful finds that have been stored away, forgotten. Enjoy your searches.

Check Out John Deere 28" Steel Wagon for $50.00

John Deere 28" Steel Wagon Review

I bought this for my 2 yr-old son, mainly for indoor use. Therefore I wanted a wagon small enough for use in an apartment, but big enough to be 'useful'. The Radio Flyer Little Red Wagon sounded too small, according to reviewers (according to them, too small even for toddlers). All others seemed too large. This one is just right.

Two minor issues, however:
(1) The handle is a bit long. But it's acceptable to me: it allows for the growth of the child. Therefore, it has 'longevity'. (Not so for the Radio Flyer Mini Classic because it's too mini?)
(2) The turning radius is large. This seems to be a safety feature. The front-wheel swivel is restricted so that the wheels are not turned so far as to make the wagon unstable. I feel that it's for the best. It will just make the 'driving' a little difficult. Well, a kid's gotta learn to deal with minor problems.

The instructions for assembly are not step-by-step. A single diagram with "exploded schematics" is your only guide. It seems that order of assembly is no big deal, though. I put it together without any problems.

In my opinion, this is the wagon for your toddler: it's the right size (for a longer term, too), and as durable as a Radio Flyer. I also like the price better than the RF's.

Regards,

John Deere 28" Steel Wagon Feature

  • Rubber tires on steel wheels
  • Wide wheel base for stabillity
  • Easy-to-grab handle
  • Maximum Weight 80 lbs

John Deere 28" Steel Wagon Overview

Kids and wagons go together like John Deere and farming. This wagon is constructed of heavy-duty rust-resistant steel, and rides on steel wheels with rubber tires. Features easy steering and easy-to-grab handle; wide wheelbase increases stability. Some assembly required. Recommended for ages 2 and over.

John Deere 28" Steel Wagon Specifications

This is a farmer's answer to the ubiquitous red Radio Flyer wagon--and in the same kid-friendly size. It's green, of course, with a 27-by-12-inch load area, and it's about 3.5 inches deep--just right for a dozen teddy bears or a few zillion LEGO pieces. The John Deere name decorates the sides. A folding black handle and 6.25-inch, black rubber wheels riding on yellow hubs complete the picture. --Richard Farr

Great wagon in every way - M. Kelly - Prescott, AZ, USA
I got this wagon to carry my aging dog, and it is great. Well made, sturdy, and I like the slightly longer handle to fit my adult arms. Turning radius is not as good as the wagons I grew up with, but it is much safer this way. It is light enough to easily lift and turn it around if need be. Happy in all respects.

john D. wagon - S. Newbury - KS
The wagon was more difficult to assemble than it appears, then the wheels didn't turn well. But overall it is a wagon and it serves its purpose well, as well as looking good while doing it.

Great quality and perfect for our two year old! - KSUWildcat -
Great quality and perfect for our two year old son. He loves carting around his toys in this wagon; is a great size for toddler rides, too! He also really enjoyed putting this together with his grandpa. Great product.

slightly dissapointed - Steve A. Porter - rome,ga
we like the color of the wagon and it was easy to put together but the one thing we didnt like about this wagon was the turn ratio. the wagon when pulling will only turn slightly left and right. i guess this was a safty feature on these wagons but you would think they would have done something in the engineering of these wagons to allow for better turning. after you turn it slightly u have to lift the front up if you want to make any further of a turn and this is inconvient to say the least.on some of the pic's on the advertisement the way it show's the angle of the wheels that is about as far as they turn. you may want to consider a different brand.

Loving Your Way to College

You probably have been exposed to, in some way or another, Gary Chapman's Love Languages. (If you have not yet read this book, I highly recommend it.) I have used this tool in numerous situations when dealing with people of all ages. I would like to show you how you can apply the genius in this system to your own family as you prepare your student for success in college.

Mr. Chapman explains in his book Love Languages that there are five different ones and each of us has a predominate love language. The languages are:

Words of Affirmation: A person whose love language is words of affirmation desires validation of worth through others comments. These people will work for nothing if you just tell them what a great job they are doing!

Quality Time: Quality time is pretty self explanatory; these individuals need time with you to feel your love.

Gifts: A person whose love language is gifts will hear love when presented with tangible items; this individual loves 'things'.

Acts of Service: An act of service person hears their language spoken when another does something for them.

Physical Touch: The final language is physical touch; this is not to be confused with romantic touch. The physical touch person is exemplified for the person who feels love through a hug or a pat on the back.

Take a minute to think about your love language. For some, they are able to identify their language immediately. Others struggle... they like them all! If you fall into this category, take some time to evaluate how you feel when you are affirmed, given quality time by someone, handed a gift, had something done specifically for you or received a pat on the back or a heartfelt hug. Over time one of these languages will speak louder to you than all the others.

The next step is to observe, ask questions, and experiment with your family members and close friends to identify their love language. Once you can recognize their language, you need to speak to them in that language. Let me give you an example, after reading Gary Chapman's Five Love Languages I discovered mine and then worked on determining my husband's love language. What I observed was that every time he did a household job he would say, "Hey Deb, I just emptied the dishwasher", or "Hey, Deb I just power washed the driveway", or "Hey Deb, I just swept out the garage". I quickly determined that he was an 'Acts of Service' guy, because if I added to the end of each of his statements, 'because I love you' it all made sense. So I started to speak his language and reciprocated with acts of service. The first 'act' I did was to make lunch for him in the mornings so he could take it to work. This simple act spoke volumes to him.

After some practice, you will be able to figure out the love languages of the people you deal with daily. A college bound student will be exposed to lots of new people, several of which will have a great impact on their future, so it only makes sense to hone your skills in this area. By adding yet another tool to your college tool kit your student can continue to increase their odds of success in college.

Radio Flyer Wagon - The 3100 Ultimate Family Wagon is Practical & Fun

The Radio Flyer Ultimate Family Wagon has made a huge difference for our family. Our outings are now such a great joy, compared to trying to use a big bulky two child stroller. With 2 small children under 4, the babies of our family were getting too large and too frustrated to use the stroller any longer, this wagon has allowed us mobility, and the children feel like big kids now, instead of babies.

We have 7 children between the ages of 3 years and 13 years old, and we need to know where the two youngest are at all times, when we are out. My husband or I pull the Radio Flyer 3100 Ultimate Family Wagon and the two smallest children are comfortable, shaded from the sun and happy where ever we go. The handle makes it very comfortable to pull the wagon behind and yet folds easily into the wagon for travel in the van, or car.

The two extra drink holders for adults are a great benefit that make it easier to carry our drinks with us and still have our hands free to deal with other children in the family, this convenience makes this wagon our choice over any other models. The two children's drink holders in the wagon also makes it nice because we do not have to worry about hearing, "Mom, my drink spilled," or "I can't reach my drink," not hearing these two sentences since we purchased this wagon, has been less stressful.

Another great thing we have found about the Radio Flyer 3100 Ultimate Family Wagon is that the kids are shaded at all times with this wonderful canopy. It adds protection from UV rays and that adds to the protection from the sunscreen we use. I used to have to fight to keep a hat on both little ones in the heat, now with the canopy, I no longer have to fight with them to keep hats on their little heads to keep their heads from being sun burned.

The Vendors Feature List:

Patent pending 5-way flip and fold seat
Removable UV protection canopy with Quick-Clip(tm) attachment system
Child seat belts
Front axles designed for non-tip turning
2 child cup holders, 2 adult cup holder
Fold over handle for easier storage
Easy access adult storage
Recommended ages: 1 1/2 years and up

My Favorite Features:

The added storage space is great. We can store a jacket for each of the two little ones in the storage area, in case it gets chilly while we are out.
We can also use the space to carry extra water or other drinks and a snack for the two small ones.
The back rests are longer for a more comfortable ride for the kids.
The back rests fold down, and make it possible to store the Radio Flyer 3100 Ultimate Family Wagon more easily in the car and at home.
The large wheels make it easier to go over grass when needed for a picnic or trip to the park.
The kids are protected from the sun.
There are two drink holders for Mum and Dad as well as two for the kids.
The children enjoy riding in their wagon much more than riding in a stroller.

This Radio Flyer Ultimate Family Wagon has made our family trips so much more enjoyable and we are so glad we bought it and I can highly recommend it.

Great Price Radio Flyer 3180 for $150.63

Radio Flyer Ultimate Comfort Wagon Review

I am so happy we picked this wagon. Yes, it was a good bit more, but it does so much! The backpack is a lot bigger then I imagined. It folds up small when not in use and pops out to be a large pack. There is so much room in this wagon. I have a 3 and 4 year old, and this will work very well for us. It is easy for both of them to get in and out of. I love all of the different ways the sets configure. It says 5, but it has to be more then that! My husband just kept showing me different ways. We also liked how it steers. It is strange not to steer a wagon by the handle, but you get use to it quick and it is SOO much easier. We have not put it in the car yet, but I am sure it will fit in the back of our SUV. It is a large wagon, and it will not fit in the trunk of a car. All in all, LOVE this wagon.

Radio Flyer Ultimate Comfort Wagon Feature

  • Most versatile wagon with patent pending 5 way flip and fold seat

I bought this for my grandkids. we take lots of trips to zoos, parks and the beach, so we had a lot to take and they were no longer interested in the stroller. this makes it so easy, and they love the different seating arrangements. The canopy offers a lot of shade as well. the storage bag holds quite a bit. It is very functional, and the kids even like taking turns pulling each other. I highly recommend this wagon. we just love it. and fits in the bag of my wagon.

Assembling a Nail Tool Kit

Walk into any drug store or beauty store , head toward the nail-care aisle, and what do you see? A lot of stuff! So many products that you may not even know what half of them are. Do you really said to have dipped their need all this paraphernalia to keep your nails looking good? No, not really. However, a well stocked nail does make home nail care simple - and anything thats easy is more likely to get done.

Nail files

You shouldn't use a metal nail file because it can rip nails, creating a jagged, tear-prone finish. Coarse-grade wood files are not good either, for the same reason. You want finesse in a file, a type with a fine-grade grit that can glide over nail tips - something that puts you in control and that gently sands nails to the perfect finish. There are a number of fine-grade wood files - sometimes called emery boards - available at drugstores, department stores, and nail salons. Some come stuck on a wood board opposite a coarser grit; some cover both sides of a wood or foam board; and some are sanitizable (can be washed).

Polish remover

Polish remover dissolves the chemicals in nail polish, breaking them down so polish can be swiped off the finger. Acetone polish remover is the stronger of the two types and a better choice for especially resistant nail polish. If you wear any kind of artificial nails that can be melted by acetone, non-acetone polish remover is the only choice.

The acetone found in some nail-polish removers is the same substance used to make plastics, fibers, drugs, and some chemicals. It is also used to dissolve other substances, and is present in vehicle exhaust fumes, tobacco smoke, and landfill sites.

To use nail-polish remover, dampen a cotton ball with remover and swipe over each finger, taking care not to saturate nails and cuticles in the solution. In fact, if you can avoid getting polish remover on your cuticles and skin, you'll be better off for it, since both types of remover are drying and irritating.

Cuticle cream

Cuticle cream, cuticle lotion, cuticle oil, cuticle softener - these are all names for a moisturizing product that is applied to your nails. What's the purpose? To soften cuticles enough so that you can easily push them back off the nail plate. There are some lovely cuticle moisturizers on the market that contain everything from alpha hydroxy acids to delicioussmelling essential oils - however, you don't need anything fancy. Petroleum jelly, olive or almond oil, thick hand cream, or baby oil are all just as effective as any cuticle products you can buy.
