10 Public Speaking Delivery Tools That Will Keep Your Audience Hooked

Below are 10 speech delivery tips you can use to have a deep impact on your audience.

1. Don't forget about your face. Your facial expressions are more important than all your arm and hand movements combined. The eyes are indeed the windows to the soul. What you do with them can make or break your entire speech.

2. Use your characters' gestures. Keep in mind that speaking involves utilizing captivating stories to make your unforgettable points. Each story has its own characters and each character probably has his or her own way of gesturing. When you take on the role and persona of that character, you should use his or her gestures. While rehearsing your speech, consistently ask yourself, "How would this character say this?"

3. Let the emotions drive. The emotions in your story and in your point will drive your movements. If you are intoxicated with your emotions while telling your story or making your point, the appropriate gestures will come. It will be effortless. When you're really angry at someone or something, do you have to think about what gestures to use? No, they come automatically. If you build the emotion, the gestures will come.

4. Gesture 360 Degrees. Many speakers gesture in front of them and on the side. World Class Speakers realize there is an entire area around them and they utilize it. Feel free to gesture down for the lower dimension. For example, when I speak about a swamp tour my wife and I took, I talk about the alligators that surrounded the boat. At that point I gesture downwards with the open hand. Then I describe the trees that were hanging down as if they were trying to grab onto us. At that point I gesture upwards to the upper dimension using my hands to emulate how the trees hung and swayed. At times I point behind me to the back of the stage or in front of me out into the audience. I might point to my right to signify the past and point to my left to signify the future as I use the stage as a timeline. The key is to go up, down, back, forth, and side to side in order to paint a whole (surround-sense) scene for your audience in order to invite them into it.

5. Don't use the same gesture over and over again. This is evidence of a habit and most likely distracts from your presentation.

6. Watch out for your resting position. This is the position your hands fall to when you're not using a gesture. For example, my hands used to fall together in front of me with my fingers interlocking. It was distracting.

7. Don't move all the time. If you are always moving then no movement will be meaningful. Your audience will never know what's most important. Move with a purpose. When there is no reason to move, don't.

8. Use an open hand. It's better to point to your audience with an open hand rather than an index finger. It's less threatening and more inviting. The open hand is also effective when calling back to spots on the floor as you revisit the points, characters, and stories you previously used.

9. Use bigger gestures for bigger audiences. Don't mismatch the size of your audience with the size of your gestures.

10. Smile.

USAF Pilot Survival Vest: Part 2

A tour of one version of an actual and current USAF Pilot Survival vest by Nutnfancy. In this four part series I go over the non-classified items in the vest and impart a little philosophy as I go. The vest itself is made by Ultimate Survival Technologies (mostly a military supplier) and is an outstanding, functional design. It has numerous pouches that can be configured in a variety of secured locations. Note that each item is also 'baggied' for moisture resistance and tethered to the vest for security. Strong points of this particular vest are its signaling and communication capabilities. This vest shows a basic loadout which is often supplemented by GPS units pre-loaded for theater, extra ammo, cold weather supplies, and other items. Several improvements to this vest could include: a medium sized fixed blade survival knife (like the KaBar Utility Knife, the Ontario RAT-7, or Fallkniven A1), better flashlight (like Streamlight TL-2), better multi-tool (like Leatherman Charge), better water storage devices, inclusion of Trioxane fire starter, double mag pouch for M9 pistol, CamelBak system, and an emphasis on lightening the overall carry weight. Basic Tools Every Homeowner Should Have

Every homeowner should have a tool kit that contains the basic tools that you may need to do regular repairs on your home. By having these tools on hand, you can be prepared to handle all repairs in your home, and you can take on some home improvements also.

Hand Tools
Start with the most basic of your tools - hand tools. You need to have a collection of Phillips head screwdrivers as well as straight screwdrivers. You should also have pliers: Regular, needle nose and locking. Then you will want to have wrenches: An Allen wrench, adjustable wrench, combination wrench and a socket wrench set. Also essential is a hammer including a claw and a ball peen hammer and a mallet. In addition to your hand tools you will want basic power drill with a variety of drill bits. You may also want to have a few larger tools handy including a pipe wrench, a pick and a sledgehammer.

Cutting Tools
When you have to cut something, a power saw comes in hand. You should have the right saw for the job, and you will probably build your saw collection slowly. Start with a jigsaw, and then you can add a coping saw, a bow saw, a hacksaw, a crosscut saw and a circular saw. You also want to have a good utility knife and a pair of tin snips to start out.

Safety Gear
No one likes to get hurt, so make sure that you stack the deck in your favor when it comes to safety. You should have earplugs or earmuffs, safety goggles, a dust mask, and a flashlight. It is also a good idea to have a ladder, stepstool and extension cords. At various times you will need ropes, work lights and clamps, and you can pick these things up as you need them. A machinist vice is great to have, but you may need to wait until you have a workshop for that one.

Measuring Tools
When you are measuring things, you need to have a tape measure. You probably want to have a ruler or straight edge, yardstick and a combination square. You also need a level and a chalk line. Then you will probably eventually acquire a pry bar, a metal file, wood chisels, putty knives, a center punch and a countersink nail set.

Nails and Fasteners
Once you have your tools all lined out, you will want to have nails and screws. You will very likely accumulate these as you have leftovers from projects, but you will also want to have nuts, bolts and washers. You should have some sandpaper in a couple of different grades along with some spray lubricant and wood glue.

Specialty Tools
There will be projects that you undertake that need special equipment or tools, and you will gradually accumulate more and more tools and equipment as time goes on. But for now, the tools listed above should get you off to a good start to get most of your regular home maintenance jobs done.

After much searching and reading about different wagons I'm so happy I went with this particular one. The price is a little high compared to some other ones but so worth it!!! I have a 2 y.o with ADHD and going for an outing is difficult most of the time. He does not sit in one place for more than 5 sec. Stroller is not an option. So I though this wagon will give him plenty of space to stretch out and tote our stuff along when out to the park, or zoo,etc. Well, I put it together tonight (had no problem doing it on my own)and my son LOVES it. He even sat in it and ate his snack and watched his favorite movie without fidgeting. And that's saying alot! The wagon is durable. The bag on the side is big enough to store a blanket, some diapers, maybe toys or some books. And even after he gets in the wagon there's still tons of space for maybe a cooler and another bag. The cover is easy to attach and will provide plenty of shade, and it's just as easy to fold up. It has a neat little bag to store it if you need to put it away when the sun goes down. It creates a "tent effect" and looks cozy on the inside. I purchased the wagon because the 4th of July parade is coming up and it's a whole day event. I wouldn't survive chasing my son all day and toting all the bags, so this looked like a perfect solution. I'm so happy with a purchase, not to mention that it got here in a few days with free super saver shipping. If I'd have to do it again I'd go with it in a heartbeat. Get it, you won't be dissapointed.

Overall we really like the wagon. My son loves it! The padded seats and the canopy, make it great for everything from the park, to the zoo, to the forest preserve. Only dislikes; the front wheels turn awkwardly, and I have already lost a part to hold the front wheel assembly onto the wagon.

I LOVE THIS WAGON! I was a little skeptical of the price being a little higher. The wagon is extrememely easy to push or pull. I have not had any problems turning the wagon. The canopy is great! The big selling point of the wagon for me was the "oversized" storage bag on the back of the wagon. I can fit loads of stuff in there. A diaper bag fits easily with plenty of extra room for other stuff.

Easy to assemble! We get compliments everywhere we go in this wagon! People love it!

okay for small jobs - duckface - california, USA
this item is only good for small jobs. i found that you have to tighten the collet nut down pretty tight if you are cutting something big (over 1/2 inch thinkness) because if you don't the bit will loosen up. also it cuts at an angle because when you tighten down the screw thing that adjusts the height it puts it at an angle. had a hard time cutting 1/2 thick piece of wood with it so only for small jobs.

My mother insisted on getting my son his Radio Flyer wagon. She was set on a red Radio Flyer and only knew about the good old, plain red wagon. When I told her about the Town & Country, she thought that would be a safer choice for her grandson. So, I thought I could go out a few days before his birthday and find this easily in my city. WRONG! No one had it in stock in any of their stores. Leave it to Amazon to save the day. I actually signed up for Amazon Prime with this purchase and Amazon Prime is the best thing since sliced bread and I love sliced bread!

Anyway, a definite thumbs up for this item. It handles well on pavement, on grass and in the kitchen. I recommend this one for every little boy or girl out there. :)

Oh...and it was fairly easy to put together. My son's father didn't get too frustrated when assembling it. So, that's a good thing. :)

We bought this product without ever seeing it first, what a mistake! Very disappointed at the quality and craftsmanship of this product. This wagon shakes and rattles when you pull it down the sidewalk, it is embarrasing. I really wish we would have splurged and gotten the higher priced one with the off-road wheels. Will likely dump this one on Craig's List next year and get a better product.

I bought this wagon a year ago for my husband's birthday. To be used for hauling our grandson around the neighborhood and an occasional bag of garden soil. While the structure has held up, the finish on the wood slats has not. Within a month, and this was in July, the paint had started peeling. I have now sanded the sides down as I did not want to have my grandson sitting among paint chips.

Tools: Building Tamiya Handy Drill

Start to finish it was about 30mins. I was momentarily stumped twice when it came to order or looking at a weird piece backwards and upside down. But otherwise all went easy. This kit cold not have been engineered any better. Wow. What an incredibly useful tool. Far less powerful than a dremel, far more powerful than a manual pin vise. Strong enough to drill wood. Slow enough to drill styrene w/o melting it. This could very well be an essential in every arsenal. And best of all, it is itself a model kit!
